It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of Dr.James A. Wilson Jr. Dr.Wilson was the founder and advisor for Brothers Leading and Cultivating Knowledge, helping many men who attended the university and or in the organization find out what it means and what it takes to be a Prairie View Man. Wilson served as the director of Honors College and as the Head of Commencement for many years dedicating his time and experience to help the students of Prairie View A&M University achieve greatness.

Dr. Wilson has always served as a role model for men on campus. As an undergraduate student, he was one of the few African American students in his cohort at the University of Texas. As an aspiring law student, he studied History in his undergraduate career and advanced to Princeton for his law degree. After the advice from Dr. George C. Wright, he started his career as a Professor. While at Prairie View A&M University, Dr. Wilson set the standard for many events and organizations. As The Head of Commencement he ushered in an era of polished ceremonies that we have come to know. After events in 2009, he set out to create a council of Prairie View Men that would serve as mentors and examples of what a Prairie View man should be. The organization consisted of men at the head of Student Government Association, the Royal Council and Class Leaders. That organization was named Brothers Leading and Cultivating Knowledge. In 2010, he helped Chelsea Young and Tiffany Ward, both former Miss Prairie View A&M University, organize a similar organization known as The Purple Jackets. Above all, Dr. Wilson was the Director of The Honors College for many years. He inspired each class of students to reach beyond the limits of their expectations.

Dr. Wilson will forever be remembered as a man of honor and integrity. He has touched every student that has come through Prairie View’s gates. We, the Men of B.L.A.C.K. , would like to send our condolences to his family, friends, students, and everyone who had the chance to interact with Dr. Wilson. He will always be remembered as a man of achievement, leadership, and scholarship.
